The Burning in God's Heart Towards the Nations

By Francis Frangipane

Our Millennium transition.
Think of it: We are the first generation in a thousand years to cross a millennial divide. On a cosmic level, yes, it is just another year; and technically, it's not even the right year: 2001 would mark the beginning of the new millennium. However, in many ways, this transition has been profound. For the first time in history, nearly the whole world was united around one thing: the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Christ. True, many nations are not celebrating this event as a Christian holy day, yet still they are acknowledging the Christian calendar as the official measurement of time in the new millennium. This alone is a step toward that day when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Remember the backdrop to these celebrations: Y2K was going to cause the world to fall apart; terrorism was to be unleashed; missiles carrying nuclear warheads might be accidentally launched; Clinton was going to declare Marshall Law. On and on we were warned of disasters, yet instead of darkness, I saw the glory of the Lord unfold.

Time marched around the globe as one nation after another welcomed the new millennium. Throughout the process I frequently found myself crying before the Lord, in touch with something of God's goodness and purpose for mankind. From time immemorial the Lord has determined to immerse the earth with the knowledge of His glory just as "waters cover the sea"; in a small way I was getting a glimpse of His coming glory.

I woke at 3 a.m. on New Year's Eve. My heart was burning; I knew the presence of the Lord was doing something unique with me. After praying and seeking the Lord, I turned on the news. ABC had a video clip showing scores of nations and different cultures, one after another in their beautiful cultural distinctions. Being filled with the Spirit of the Lord, it seemed spectacular to me for I could also feel His great desire that each of these cultures would come to know Him. In a small way, I believe I was experiencing God's heart for the nations. I felt His passions for the Pacific islands, on to Asia and then Africa and Europe - really for every people group, both large and small.

I began to weep and cry and think, "God what am I doing? How am I going to handle this day? I can't even talk, I'm just crying." At 7 a.m. I left home and went to the prayer room at the church and stood by the large world map. Again, I began to cry as I felt God's heart. Listen to me, God's heart is stirred for the nations. He spoke to my spirit, "My heart is burning, now let your heart burn! My heart is kindled. My compassions will not fail. The ends of the earth are Mine and the inheritance of the world is Mine. I'm not going to abandon the nations; I am going to gather them to Myself."

Just before I left home, I had listened to a report about the first two nations to enter the new millennium (just across the time line). One of those nations, Tonga, has a Christian King. He brought his nation together for prayer. There, as time moved toward midnight in Tonga, the nation welcomed the new millennium by singing Handel's Messiah!

Listen my friends, the earth is the Lords! Every nation is going to know Him and every knee is going to bow before Him; every tongue is going to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! That's not optional; that's the way it's going to be!

I watched still more reports. Even reporters seemed to understand that, at the core of this celebration, was a deeper truth: the influence and power of Jesus Christ had not waned during the two thousand years since His birth - in fact, it had never been greater!

How different the celebrations were in contrast to our expectations. Most people, whether they admitted it or not, had made at least some preparations as a hedge against possible disasters. Food was stored, power outages expected and riots predicted. New York City, for instance, purchased thousands of body bags in anticipation of riots, and yet there were no arrests and no violence. In fact, no alcohol was even allowed in Times Square, where one and a half million completely sober people celebrated the new millennium.

In Washington DC, the celebration included the singing of gospel songs. When the song "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands" was sung, the camera panned the huge crowd. Multitudes with their hands lifted up and their eyes towards God were singing. It was almost church! This is not a nation that has forgotten God!

Despite terrorist threats in England, the Queen still attended their celebration. The theme of their celebration was "A New Beginning." Among those who performed were two young children, perhaps 11 to 13 years old. With spotlights on them, their first words were, "Lord forgive us. Lord pardon our sins. Give us a new beginning." Here was the next generation asking God to forgive the previous generations' sins. And again, for me, the tears streamed down my face.

In the midst of their celebration, Prince Charles gave a significant speech. I want to read a shortened version of it:

"I suspect many of us will have been wondering how to approach the Millennium; wondering what it actually means in the midst of our daily lives. Will it for instance, be ... the dawning of an exciting moment, when we step boldly across the threshold marked the 21st century merging into the golden promised land of the perennial future, where there shall be no more wailing and gnashing of teeth ... Or will it perhaps provide a sacred moment of reflection?"

"As we celebrate the 2000th anniversary of that unique occurrence when the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, will it remind us ... (of) Christ's mysterious birth? In an age of secularism, I hope with all my heart that in the New Millennium we can begin to rediscover a sense of the sacred in all that surrounds us. But to do that, we must first understand that life is a more profound experience than we have been told! After all, the likelihood of life beginning by chance is about as great as a hurricane blowing through a scrap yard and assembling a Rolls-Royce!"

We have to understand that this is the future King of England defying the godless evolutionary doctrine that has been undermining our culture. And then he said,

"Perhaps in the midst of the celebrations and the hype, deep down inside many of us, we may feel intuitively that the strongest desire of everything, and the first one encountered by nature, is to return to its source. And since God is the source of our souls and has made them like unto Himself; therefore this soul desires above all things to return to Him!"

We could read more statements made by other Kings, Presidents and leaders announcing their new found awareness of the tremendous time in which we live. The point is, God is doing something worldwide. The Almighty is activating mankind, awakening the nations. It is time to fulfill His eternal purpose.

Something is occurring to us, whether we realize it, whether we can define it, or whether we even know how to adjust to it or not. The eternal purpose of God is beginning to unfold. The Bible calls this era the "fulness of times." There will be storms and there will be shakings, yet this "kairos" season is a time of great opportunity.

Paul wrote of this time. Speaking of God's plan at the end of the age, he wrote, "He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fulness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things upon the earth." (Eph 1:9-10).

God is in the process of summing up everything in Christ. He's not "trying" to do it; it's happening. He is Sovereign. He has determined at the end of the age to gather everything together in Jesus Christ.

So whatever your doctrine is, whatever your eschatology is, whatever you think is going to happen, the gathering of the nations is the track upon which all other end time occurrences move toward fulfillment.

Once you see that big picture and understand it as a revelation in your heart, you can begin to understand what is happening to our nation and to our world. You can look at the fall of Soviet Communism and at "globalism" without seeing these things merely as a setup for the antichrist, but more the work of Jesus Christ to gather the nations. Eventually, the Lord will allow wickedness to assume greater control over mankind, but right now what is occurring worldwide is a setup for the harvest! Today, over one million people a week are coming to know Jesus Christ! Truly God is covering the earth with His glory!

He is working everything after the counsel of His will so that everyone will see the glory of God before the judgments and wrath of God are displayed against the world. Everyone is going to know about the mercy of God before they see the wrath of God. Today, the heart of God is burning in love for all peoples. We stand, my friends, in the greatest season of harvest the world has ever known.
